Dr. AMRITA POONIA, currently Assistant Professor in Centre of Food Science and Technology, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, holds a brilliant academic and service record. She has served as Lecturer (Food Technology) at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar, Haryana and Government Women’s Polytechnic College, Jabalpur (M.P) and Government Polytechnic College Mandi, Adampur, Hisar. She obtained her post-graduate degrees of M.Sc and Ph. D from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. She has an excellent academic record and merit stipend holder during M.Sc. and PhD and ICAR scholarship during Bachelor’s degree. She has served as an Academic Counselor and Evaluator for IGNOU M.Sc. (DFSM) (Master of Science in Dietetics & Food Service Management) course and Diploma in Dairy Technology. Dr Poonia has written two laboratory manuals on “Laboratory Manual on Food and Dairy Microbiology” and Technology of Cereals and Pulses. She has published more than 20 publications in esteemed National and International Journals/Books. In addition, she has handled the research project titled “Identification of Foodborne pathogen (Listeria monocytogenes) in Shrikhand Using PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)” worth Rs. 2,00,000.00 at BHU under new faculty improvement programme. She has taught various courses viz. Advances in Biotechnology, Advances in Food Microbiology, Technology of milk and milk products, Food Microbiology, Technology of Cereals, pulses and oilseeds. Dr Poonia has guided 18 students of M.Sc. for their research work and Three Ph. D scholars are perusing their research under her supervision.
